Word Wednesday .::168

Word Wednesday is posted every Wednesday. Each week I post a scripture that I've read that week that has spoken to me in a fresh way. I believe that if we read God's Word every day, He will give us at least one scripture every week that will impact us. Sharing Scripture with each other is like iron sharpening iron. Leave a comment and share a scripture that has impacted you this week.

Here's the scripture that stuck this week:

Acts 28:1-6 NIV

Once safely on shore, we found out that the island was called Malta. 2 The islanders showed us unusual kindness. They built a fire and welcomed us all because it was raining and cold. 3 Paul gathered a pile of brushwood and, as he put it on the fire, a viper, driven out by the heat, fastened itself on his hand. 4 When the islanders saw the snake hanging from his hand, they said to each other, “This man must be a murderer; for though he escaped from the sea, the goddess Justice has not allowed him to live.” 5 But Paul shook the snake off into the fire and suffered no ill effects. 6 The people expected him to swell up or suddenly fall dead; but after waiting a long time and seeing nothing unusual happen to him, they changed their minds and said he was a god.

A couple things stick out to me. First, it shows how judgmental people can be and how quick they can be judgmental. They didn't know Paul, but they quickly became experts on him and his past based on the subjective, present circumstances. Secondly, it shows how people tend to extremes instead of balance. Not only did they change their judgment on him, but they went the total extreme other way. First, he must be a murderer, and then he must be a god. There is zero balance here. Same old story still happens today. It seems like we'll never learn.

Here's the scripture that stuck this week:

Acts 15:19 NIV

“It is my judgment, therefore, that we should not make it difficult for the Gentiles who are turning to God."

The gospel is simple, but not easy, because of the surrender part. In other words, its hard enough for people to throw down there pride and accept God's forgiveness, so why would we as a church want to make it any more difficult...but we do, sometimes. We make it difficult when assume of the role of the Holy Spirit in people's lives, instead showing them how to listen to God, Himself. It's ludicrous for us to complicate the gospel for people, instead of SIMPLY bringing them to Jesus.

Here's the scripture that stuck this week:

Acts 12:21-23 NIV

21 On the appointed day Herod, wearing his royal robes, sat on his throne and delivered a public address to the people. 22 They shouted, “This is the voice of a god, not of a man.” 23 Immediately, because Herod did not give praise to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down, and he was eaten by worms and died.

Just thought I'd share this...just in case you weren't sure about God's desire for our worship. Resist the temptation for your fame. God is the only one that can handle fame perfectly.

Acts 1:11 NIV

“Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”

This is very applicable to us now. This life isn't just a waiting room for Heaven...it's our time to bring Heaven to earth. Ecclesiastes says "Don't stare at the clouds..."

Want or Need: Smart Phone

In an ever-growing materialistic society, it's becoming more difficult to distinguish the difference between what we really want and what we really need. It's time for you to weigh in on this discussion. It's real simple...is it a want or a need?
