Word Wednesday .::96

Word Wednesday is posted every Wednesday. Each week I post a scripture that I've read that week that has spoken to me in a fresh way. I believe that if we read God's Word every day, He will give us at least one scripture every week that will impact us. Sharing Scripture with each other is like iron sharpening iron. Leave a comment and share a scripture that has impacted you this week.

Here's the scripture that stuck this week:

Job 26:5-14 The Message

5-14 "All the buried dead are in torment,
and all who've been drowned in the deep, deep sea.
Hell is ripped open before God,
graveyards dug up and exposed.
He spreads the skies over unformed space,
hangs the earth out in empty space.
He pours water into cumulus cloud-bags
and the bags don't burst.
He makes the moon wax and wane,
putting it through its phases.
He draws the horizon out over the ocean,
sets a boundary between light and darkness.
Thunder crashes and rumbles in the skies.
Listen! It's God raising his voice!
By his power he stills sea storms,
by his wisdom he tames sea monsters.
With one breath he clears the sky,
with one finger he crushes the sea serpent.
And this is only the beginning,
a mere whisper of his rule.
Whatever would we do if he really raised his voice!"

I love this passage. It really speaks to the fact that we don't know how big and amazing God really is. We probably wouldn't be able to handle it.

Here's the scripture that stuck this week:

Job 12:4-12 The Message

4-6 "I'm ridiculed by my friends:
'So that's the man who had conversations with God!'
Ridiculed without mercy:
'Look at the man who never did wrong!'
It's easy for the well-to-do to point their fingers in blame,
for the well-fixed to pour scorn on the strugglers.
Crooks reside safely in high-security houses,
insolent blasphemers live in luxury;
they've bought and paid for a god who'll protect them.
7-12 "But ask the animals what they think—let them teach you;
let the birds tell you what's going on.
Put your ear to the earth—learn the basics.
Listen—the fish in the ocean will tell you their stories.
Isn't it clear that they all know and agree
that God is sovereign, that he holds all things in his hand

"Put your ear to the earth--learn the basics." - That's an amazing piece of poetic perspective on life. In the hustle and bustle, look at nature, then ask yourself who is sustaining all this. Amazingly beautiful.

LEBRON

I must admit that I didn't think my Celtics would get past the Cavs. In fact, I picked the Cavs to win it all this year. Of course, I am definitely not sad that I was wrong. Go Celtics!

So, what about Lebron James?

There's no doubt that this guy is a man-child. We've never seen anyone like him play the game.

So, what do you think? Make your predictions:

*First...is he going to be the greatest ever at the end of his career?

**And Second...what team do you think he'll be playing for next year and why?

Here's the scripture that stuck this week:

Esther 6:6-9 The Message

6-9 When Haman entered, the king said, "What would be appropriate for the man the king especially wants to honor?"

Haman thought to himself, "He must be talking about honoring me— who else?" So he answered the king, "For the man the king delights to honor, do this: Bring a royal robe that the king has worn and a horse the king has ridden, one with a royal crown on its head. Then give the robe and the horse to one of the king's most noble princes. Have him robe the man whom the king especially wants to honor; have the prince lead him on horseback through the city square, proclaiming before him, 'This is what is done for the man whom the king especially wants to honor!'"

This is a pretty cool part of the story of Esther. Haman hates Mordecai, yet he plans Mordecai's ceremony of honor, because he didn't think he was honoring Mordecai. He thought he would be honoring himself. Ironic? Yes. But, it's beautiful consistent poetry of the layout of the Bible. Jesus was all about loving our enemies and doing to others as we would have done to ourselves. Haman's honoring was unintentional, which is different from Jesus. We are to intentionally honor everyone, whatever that may mean. Pretty cool part of the story and kind of humorous.

What would you like to dedicate to your mom?

I'm gonna dedicate "Say" by John Mayer, because she's pretty transparent, like me. No bull, and I appreciate and love her for that.

Here's the scripture that stuck this week:

Nehemiah 8:5-6 The Message

5-6 Ezra opened the book. Every eye was on him (he was standing on the raised platform) and as he opened the book everyone stood. Then Ezra praised God, the great God, and all the people responded, "Oh Yes! Yes!" with hands raised high. And then they fell to their knees in worship of God, their faces to the ground.

What an awesome picture of the power of God's Word and the example of praise in the leader. Ezra depicts an amazing image of leading worship in this passage.

Music is great, because there are different songs and artists you can listen to, depending on the mood. So...

What album or artist do you like to listen to when you're down?

I like to listen to mellow stuff. Mostly acoustic stuff. I find myself listening to Bob Dylan, if I'm a little down.
